Net Neutrality Heats Up: We Are the Web back in the Spotlight

  • Posted by: Ben Drake

The Net Neutrality debate has begun again with the new Congress. America RadioWorks interviewed the creators of We Are the Web for the story of how their viral Net Neutrality music video struck a chord with Internet users everywhere. Read “We Are the Web,” part of a larger piece, “Imperial Washington.”

We Are the Web was created by space150 and brings several Internet Celebrities together for a song and video explaining how Net Neutrality is a necessary protection for the small players on the Internet. It’s heartfelt, fun, and you’ll find yourself singing along.

In its first 27 days, over 1 million unique visitors came to the We Are the Web site, watching the music video more than 2 million times. It got another 20,000 views on YouTube, and Google and Yahoo each list over 34,000 links to WeAretheWeb.org. Google ranked the video third in its “Ten Best Videos” list, and Yahoo featured it on their homepage—a placement worth $2 million in ad dollars.

American RadioWorks is a unit of American Public Media, and produces features including All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Marketplace, and The World.
